Frustrated with ease of shift 250 Recon

Just purchased a new 2018 Recon 250 foot shift. I am finding I have to do a LOT of rocking back and forth to get unit into R and N. I am used to a positive neutral finder on my Honda CTX motorcycle. Should I be having so much trouble getting the R and N shift on a new unit? Will it get better as I use it more? Frustrating at times.

If its new i would take it back & see what they say. Could be anything from centrifugal clutch engagement, to oil.
