front disc brake swap Q's for 90' 300fourtrax

I bought 90' TRX300FW, the front brakes need to be completely gone though. Instead I'd like to swap for disc brakes. All the kits I see are fror 92 and up. Is this because of wheel size, what I mean is did the previous years have smaller wheels that would not allow for the discs and calipers???? What is the difference in the hub/wheel/brake set up that will not allow these kits to work on pre 92'??? thanks - Egan

All models had 11 inch front rims, but the off sets could have been different, I can't remember. I know they changed the front suspension on the 2wd models in '92, but I'm not sure about the 4wd models. I don't really see why they wouldn't work on the '90, but there may be some differences that I'm not aware of. I would call the company or email them and ask to be sure. I know that all kits that I've seen require 12 inch rims. Usually the ads will say that the kit will fit other Honda models not listed as long as you have 12 inch rims.
found out the deal......if the front drums have the two small bolts with 8mm heads holding the drum to the hub the kit will work. apparently some pre 92 300 2wd's had a different front drum set up than the 300 4wd so the kit is only advertised for 92+
I believe the 4wd is the only ones that had the two bolts that bolted the drum to the hub. The 2wd models had the hub and drum as one piece, since there are no front axles. The wheel studs were part of the drum, so there was no need for any bolts. On the 2wd, the hubs just slide over the spindle and then there's a big nut on the end of the spindle to hold the drum on. So, since only the 4wd models have the two bolts that you're speaking of, I don't know why it would fit the '92-up 2wd models and not the '88-'91 2wd models. There must be something I'm missing.
