Looking at another purchase..this time a fourtrax 300..I’m unsure about the year and also asked if it was 4x4..gentleman said he wasn’t sure about year but that it was 4x4..what’s the best way to check year and if 4x4?

4x4 will have front driveshafts and a diff, 2wd will not. The tenth digit of the vin number will verify the year of manufacture, post it here and somebody will get back to you.
The vin is located in the front of the frame, behind the bumper on a pressed steel plate between the two main upright tubes.

10th digit of the vin is a letter , that letter against the vin chart and you have the year
