Honda fourtrax 300 axle slines worn under. the axle has splines on opposite side. Can i just spin around 180 degrees and slap it back together?
Also, where seals ride on axle is worn down. Anyone make a larger id repair seal, with sleeve?

It’s a new axle situation if you ask me. In order to fit a shim for the seal to compensate for wear you’d need to machine the axle down, that alone would cost more than a replacement axle.

I take it that the sealing area of the axle is grooved from the seal lip and the hub /axle spline is stripped or worn down ------ to fix it right is always the best way to go , if you can afford it and have the time --------if it were me I would weld the hub to the axle , the axle and hub would already needed to be replaced , so what would you be losing , I would stick new seals in the diff , drill and tap the fill plug for a grease fitting and pump it full of water proof grease ----- it will last and give you time to gather parts to fix it right if you ever have to go back into the diff

nope. some say it can be done ?, others..as myself ?, no. reason: if you look at the brake panel side of the axle ?, yu'll notice that the axle is made different then the left rear side. reason: the brake panel side uses carrier bearings in the brake panel that rest on the axle. chances are, once the axle ring gear splines wear out ?, your ring gear will be worn too, then your taking the chance of tearing more parts up. just replace the axle, hubs, axle, and any other parts that need to be replaced, do it once, do it right !. some folks weld hubs, weld ring gears to axles just to save some money ?, but to me ?, this will come back later and bite you on the rear, now your looking at taking more time to cut it all apart just to fix it correctly !.

Good eye Shade , I see what he is asking now , flip the axle , that wouldn't line up ----- where are you at Richief , I got at least 10 - 300 axles , but I am not into shipping -----a 20 pack of Coors Lite Bottles for an axle , a good hub should bring a 12 pack , I think it would be worth double that

yeah fish, i've had this convo with a lot of folks, they don't understand the concept of the trx300 axles in the way they are made..lol. the right rear side is made for the brake panel carrier bearings. if you try to flip the axle ?, now your brake panel bearings wont be right on the axle.

Thanks fellas, its a friends, sons 300, a quick look and i seen duplicate splines that look typical, on left side of axle and assumed it can be flipped. Brake side being different as y’all informed me prohibits that, i see said the blind man. Which begs the question why the duplicate splines for ring gear? Hubs are fine by the way. Also thanks for parts offer, would gladly swing bye with beer if You were closer to East Kentucky. I suppose i”ll get axle and use old ring gear, seems fine on the unused splines.

If the axle spline is worn where the ring gear rides , then you should replace the ring at the same time , when you replace the ring then you should replace the pinion at the same time as a set ,------------ I have replace just a axle before for the same reason as you and it worked and is still going --------just be aware that it is possible that the new axle doesn't last long , depending on the condition of the ring's splines ------are going to disassemble the diff and see the splines of the ring after cleaning it up , or just stick the new axle in and let it ride ? ----I just took a chance on a axle that should get here Monday , my 450 axle has spline wear , I ordered a Caltric after market axle , the OEM was $120 plus shipping and I got it for $69 with shipping , don't know how good the steel and heat treating are and may be disappointed in the end --------- Caltric would most likely have a axle for a 300

i've tried caltric brand before, not on an axle, but with a reg/rec many moons ago, I think those dummies have no clue how to make a product !, it could have been built better from china !..lol. I don't have any trust in their name at all.
