my honda fourtrax 4x4 1999 seems to lost power, had carb cleaned, gas tank cleaned, when you throttle and shift it doesn't go like it use to,any ideas??
does it rev up..before you shift gears ?..if not..then your carb isnt cleaned right.. if it does rev up..and then you loose take off power..more than likely your clutch disk plates are worn...you may even be able to adjust the clutch before you decide to replace them.

honda fourtrax

when I throttle it at idle, it feels as though it has a governor,it flattins out, when I drive it bogs down and hunts, semi bucking, last fall it ran excellent,I stored all the quads the same way, when we got them ready this spring this quad had this problem right off, I suspect the carb still has a problem.

yeah..from the sound of it..you need to pull your carb off..and go back through it. make sure you pull everything out..all jets..with a single wire..from a wire brush..and some carb cleaner spray..work the wire through all the jets..sounds like the jets are stopped up from gunk...do not use alot of force when working the wire in the jets..if you break the wire off inside the jet..you can kiss it goodbye..lol..after you do all of that..if you got an air compresser..blow out all the holes before you put it all back together..it should run good after that..oh..also check your choke cable..it could be stuck ?..alot of trouble comes from the choke cable sticking.

Yeah, I agree. It sounds like a carb problem.

I'll try to get a more thorough cleaning done again, the only challenge I see is the connection of the choke cable at the carb and how to disconnect it at the carb. thanks again
it's easy to remove..get a 14 mm open end wrench..un screw it off..very easy :)..also..when time to put the choke back in..be very careful not to cross thread it..it's only plastic threads !

Just use a wrench to unscrew the choke cable and it pulls out with the start enrichment valve on the end of the cable.

Yeah, I don't need pictures either, but it probably makes it easier for everyone else and it's easier than typing all that.

Welcome to the forums. Lots of people have had that problem. You can take the cable loose from the valve and try drilling a small hole down through the top of the valve. Then, screw a screw down into the hole so that the threads cut into the valve. Then clamp ViseGrips on the head of the screw and pull the valve out. Of course, you will have to replace the valve.

You should be able to pull hard on the cable and the end of the cable should slip out. The tip of the valve is made of brass and it should just break off where the cable hooks. Sometimes, the cable will just pull out and not even break the end off. You will have to replace the valve anyway, so it won't matter if it breaks. I believe that choke valve (starter enrichment valve) runs around $35.

By the way nice wheeler in your profile pic.
Thanks.
