When I reassembled my 250x top and I forgot to reinstall one of the timing chain guides. It’s the black one on the front of the motor not on the chain adjuster side. I already have the jug and head torqued down and really don’t want to disassemble it but am I playing with fire not putting that back in?

I know, do it right. But man, it’s the one fixed to the side. With the cam chain tightener installed I don't even think the chain would touch the fixed guide. Tensioner moves the one that’s already there.
I don’t know. Total brain fart.

It’s one of those PITA jobs unfortunately, you know you should do it but you really don’t want to! You have to do it really, if that chain starts slapping around, which it probably will on the over-run you risk it jumping time or the chain failing.

We did the same exact thing on my brothers kfx450. And we had a big ride in 3 days. We took it apart put the guide in and we used copper gasket spray on both sides of the cometic gasket and put it back on. That was last year and it hasnt been a problem since. Headgaskets can be re-used in a pinch. I would never suggest it unless circumstances force it. Either way do not start that motor without the guide. Thats playing with C4 in my mind. My .02

Tore it down and did it right. Installed the motor, gassed her up and fired on third kick. Let the rings go thru two heat cycles and took it for a spin. All good.
1987 250x with mint plastics, clean frame and good tires for $800
Std comp and size OEM rings and gasket set $50
New rockers $90
Bearing carrier/bearings $50

I’ve got 1000 into a great quad for my 11 year old.
It’s stock compression, stock quite exhaust, doesn’t tick or smoke, shifts smooth, starts on a kick or two. Can’t beat simplicity and Honda durabity. When he’s ready, I’ll do the 350x swap I intended to originally do.
