I've been shopping for parts and some say that they only fit the '02-04 Foreman 450s... I know that they went to the 2wd-4wd selectable diff... but what other differences are there? For instance some suspension parts state different part #s for 98-01 vs 02-04...

Or are some of these places just listing the '02+ out of convenience or ignorance?

Earlier 450's have shock bushings .... later, roller bearings.
Earlier have glass headlight .... later, plastic.

You can use the interchange lists for each part number you need at part sites like Partzilla. Though not 100% accurate, they at least insure you are buying parts that fit your bike.

I have 5 450's 3 are 2002 up and 2 are 2001 down , only one is running a 2002 , one 1999 is a complete bike which I have yet to touch , some things I have seen different that wasn't mentioned , the dash pod is different older ones didn't have a 4x4 indicator light , the wiring harnesses are different , carb is different , the regulator , front diff module , the muffler is listed as different , I am going to find that out one day when I try t swop it

There was a lot of small changes, I think most will in fact interchange once you get down to it. But if your looking for OEM parts just buy what is correct for your model year to avoid any confusion or issues with fitment.

I have a 99 Honda 450 foreman es and the front side case that has the oil filter. Will a Honda 450 s side cover work? Cause the es has the gear changing motor on it and the s does have one.
