This is a bit of a crazy question, as most seem to try to do the backwards thing. But long story short my disabled dad is trying to get in on some property work. And well the footshift won’t be working well for him. I personally love it but debating either picking up another beater bike or maybe converting this one and eventually get him a nice bike.

Has anyone done it? I’d imagine it would need a few sensors and the actuator along with the shift buttons. Is the cluster necessary. Probably would help. Unless I can find someone to trade me an ES bike. That probably be best bet lol.

Not really feasible to convert with factory parts. When converting the other way the ES components can be bypassed or left in place so it doesn’t really cost much to do, but converting the other way you’d need a ton of parts to make it happen, i wouldn’t even attempt it. Buying an ES motor would be the way to go, but you would then need to change the wiring harness and add the shift switches, what all else I really don’t know.

I’m not sure what machine it is you are talking about, I’m only speaking in general terms. But if it’s an older machine, Cycle Country used to make an ES kit as an aftermarket accessory for some machines. So that may be an option for you?

It’s a 2008 rancher 420. Yea thinking my best bet is to just get another bike. Been debating real hard on just making the jump and getting a new bike. Like the new rubicons hear they bring power steering as well im sure he will enjoy that.

Power steering is nice, been around since your rancher was new, can get it in any Honda except the Rincon. Wouldn’t want another machine without it after having a few with it now. I think your right, getting another machine that has ES is the best way to go, whether it’s new or just a good used machine is up to you.
