My friends who have had them, had electrical issues where you (usually) are plowing your snowy yard at night & you have lights on, heated grips etc. & the constant up & down of the winch takes a toll on the battery & charging system. Some guys have added a car battery to the machine as well as the ATV one. Motor doesnt rev high nor long enough to charge it.
Then there is the slamming into a snow bank & 'possibly' tweaking the frame. Front end getting out of alignment or twisted with the added force with the 4x4 pushing the weight of the snow. Not saying all are like this, but unless you really knew the owner that they didnt abuse it, theres a good chance some yahoo is PO'd he has to plow the white crap & wants to get it over with. Just my 2c ...better passing on one than buying IMO.
well I can see your point, but honestly
almost 20 yrs of plowing snow, dirt gravel and all sorts of things, never ever had a issue with battery not holding up, and battery never on a tender(tll last yr and not always there still LOL)
I am sure it COULD run a weaker battery down, and if you a guy that has a zillion electronics's on board and all ON, , but just plowing and up and down of winch, I don;'t see killing an atv's battery or charging system, as the line is only moving a few inches at a time, so its very short burst of power
and most Smarter folks SHOULD be using a battery tender when atv is done in winter time period, plow or not machine, COLD temps drain battery's, averaged 5+ yrs out of battery's
and again, for 15+ yrs mine lived pretty much exposed to all elements and I plowed a few hundred miles every winter.
also, plows have trip springs on them to SAVE atv from damage, if you hit things under the snow, and the pins on them will break and shear before the ATV's frame will
IF your running into a plow back hard enough to BEND a frame, your alsos getting throw over the handle bars, so again doubt many are doing this more than a few times before they find its not fun! HAHA!
so I wouldn;t worry about that to be honest
I once hit a curb at about 25+ mph, sheared the pin's plow tripped and atv stopped REALLY fast
NO damage at all, I don't see that being a normal deal and once you do it I think most would learn to smarten up(as I did ) handle bars hit thigh's real hard and make you say some foul language reran fast! LOL
but I have also plowed a an easy 200+ ton of gravel, and again NO damage to atv';s frame at all
Plows do not scare me on ATV
s
all the more so since most I know that have them tend to have SMALL drive ways they use them on, most folks that plow bigger things USE bigger things
I'm maybe a odd ball here, as I plow MILES at a time, plowing trails thru the woods behind my place and drive way it was mainly used on was over a 1/2 mile long, and I plow that 16-20+ ft wide every snow fall, and then about the main field(again for walking trails) and all the building's
it was an easy 120+ miles of plowing every time it snowed for 15 + yrs, from snow falls of a few inches to 30+ inches(that works an atv more than hitting things IMO, and MOST folks won't use an atv here again just too time consuming( I like plowing with the atv and didn't mind spending hours to move DEEP snow, had the time to kill)
so worries about atv's with plow's I still say is a lower odds deal than many other n=mods being on one!
