Hi all, I have a 2005 recon with some brake issues I hope? Here's the deal, I was going down the road to get to where we ride and the rear end or the brakes locked up. Lever and pedal are very stiff. I can back up and they release. Long story short it will go forward for short distance and lock up the rears. Drives backwards fine. Drove home over 1 mile in reverse. Please help! Thanks

Can't really see where that is the brakes, but jack it up and pop off the rear wheel and see if they are locked.

Sounds to me that it's more likely a gear problem, either in the transmission or diff.

feels more like the brakes. The engine can overpower this lock up but will not roll free. I haven't looked at this much but the brakes are in the differential on this I believe. I have owned this since new and have never had any issues at all, only fluid changes have been done on this ATV.

the brakes won't be together with the diff..or they would be getting soaked in diff oil..the brakes will be on the outer wheel hub inside a hub..( this is if your year model doesn't have disk brakes ? ) sorry..i'm not up to par on new machines..all old school here...anyway..jack up your rear wheels..remove the right rear wheel..remove the brake hub..inspect you brake drum and brake shoes..sounds like the shoes came apart from the brake linning ?.

I think on the Recon the rear diff housing also houses the brakes, but it's sealed off from the diff, meaning the brakes aren't in any gear oil.

Thanks to all!! My brake shoe lining delaminated from the shoe causing It to lock up. Unfortunately my local Honda dealer can't get me new ones until the end of next week!! Very disappointing!! Any help on where is the best place online to buy good parts! Thanks

Ebay or bikebandit.com are a couple good places.
