I did my first oil change today and was wondering about something.In the service manual it says"Apply grease to the filter side of the spring end.Install the spring into the new oil filter".In the owners manual it doesn't say anything about grease and when i did the oil change there was no grease on the filter or the spring so i didn't do it my self.So i was wondering if anyone actually uses grease or not.Thanks

I haven't, but I do apply some oil to the gasket when seating the new filter, or in this case the filter cover. Thats it.

I've used grease before, but I usually just rub a little oil on the rubber gasket. I doubt if it would hurt anything if you didn't use either.

I just put the filter on the cover and the spring in the recess hole on the filter and slowly slide back into filter housing.
