Hey! Farmer here from Northern IL. Some of you might recognize me from the Pioneer forums. I'm here soaking in all of the info I can get about my two new wheelers.....

1st is a 1986 Fourtrax 350 4x4 that I found on Craigslist non running. It's main problem was bad key/ignition switch. Now it seems the cdi is bad giving the intermittent dying when I put it in gear. Purchase price....$200

2nd is a 1993 Fourtrax 300 4x4 that I grew up around. My brother bought it from our friend the original owner. My bro's kids have completely dominated the poor girl in to submission. So far I found 5 wires detached in the front box. Rear wheel bearings are GONE. Diff seems ok but the oil is brown grease. I think they parked her just in time. I had it pop over and run a minute until (I think) the timing chain jumped. That chain was rattling pretty loud. So I'll be tearing in and checking that out soon. I mean this thing is rough. Missing and loose bolts every where, bald tires, bad and welded exhaust, you name it.
Purchase price....$550 You can see I have faith in the old girl.

I'll probably keep the 350 and flip the poor old 300 just because the 50 is in better shape and comes stock with more power.

Wish me luck! I grew up with kids of a Honda Dealer and it all started on the Big Red 250es. Lord what a tank! Then moved up to racing easter egg hunts and hare scrambles on XR's and CR's. Those were the days!

I know, you are right about that parts availability thing. The other part is that I have known the 300 since new and have that attachment to it but she's rough.

I'll get some picks up...

Maybe I'll sell them both and upgrade to something modern but not sure about that. Comparing my '14 Pioneer to these old wheelers.... Honda sure has changed.

You got a smokin' deal on the 86 350! Very nice! Which one of the CDI pins (or the plug?) are you having trouble with? What color is the wire going to that pin?

As you probably know by now... the 86 & 87 TRX350 Fourtrax CDIs interchange (AC-CDI ignition system), but none of the TRX350D Foreman CDIs (DC-CDI ignition system) will...

I believe it was a black wire on the smaller of the two plugs. I'd have to double check to be sure.

The guy that sold it to me said he couldn't find the pull starter. LOL!

Looks to have a home made front bumper, doesn't it @fishfiles
Oh yeah, it's home made! I think the old boy used a stick welder with soaking wet rods since the welds are about an inch thick and globbed on there. Combine that bumper with the two car horns that I removed and I'd guess he was pushing cattle or cars. LOL! A future project once I'm done spending cash on the 300.

In the small CDI plug, the Bl/W wire goes to the Ign switch & Kill switch, so if that wire came loose you wouldn't be able to shut the motor off. That leaves only the BL/R wire that comes from the pulse generator to be the culprit...?
Yep, you got it. Thanks for the diagram! I can't wait to get back to it once the 300 is done. She's going to need all of my attention. :wink

Very nice. Keep them both and fix them. The 350 is too nice to sell, and they are absolute tanks.

The 300 will be much easier to source parts for, and are super reliable bikes that can be easily upgraded. Put some disc brakes on the front, a 424 for selectable 4wd/2wd and you'll have a super reliable bike that will be more user friendly than the solid front axle 350.

Welcome to the site! Where are you at in northern IL? I'm near Rockford. I've had two 350s and one 300 over the years. All 3 were too far gone so I parted them out on eBay and CL

Thanks! I'm down south of Rochelle. Sorry you had to part them out it must have been a tough choice.
