I own a 2007 Rancher 420FE ES. When I turn the key the fan kicks on. The temp light stays on and the FI light blinks 7 times. The ECT sensor was replaced with no change. If I short the diagnostic red connector I get no codes, fan is off except the FI light stays lit. Any ideas?

you need to look in the service manual, and see what 7 flashes are ?, I don't know ?, but I can tell you this, your fan is on most likely because your oil temp sensor is bad.

I could not find a Oil temp sensor on a 07’ Honda Rancher 420FE Es... if you think it has one please show me where. I’m looking through the manual
I'M sorry, I was think old school here, my apologies , on your model, your issue will be with your thermostat , reason : your model is liquid cooled. the thermostat is what controls your fan seeing how your model is liquid cooled :).

Really? I rebuilt the top end and remember putting the thermostat back. I don’t remember a sensor coming from the housing.
How could it do that without a sensor? By the way I did purchase a new thermostat but have not installed it yet...

Update... I changed the thermostat and the ect sensor and also borrowed an ecm Computer ... no change. If the 07’ model fan runs off the ecm, ect and thermostat and when you turn the key on and the fan spins and the temp light stays red and the FI light blinks 7 times all it can be is the connection between the new ECT sensor and the ecm.
If anyone has another thing for me to check please let me know.
