I bought a 2001 Honda foreman 450 es on Sunday rode fine shifted fine turned on. Got it home and won’t do anything. When you go to start it just clicks,so google the problem bought a new starter figure I was good to go. New starter is on and still won’t crank. Messed around with the carb/fuel line/air box and got it fire up for like 20 mins. We turned it off because ES wouldn't do Any thing, doesn’t make Sound won’t shift out of N. We had to manually shift it into N just to fire it up. Any help for a noobie would be great.

*I did buy a new carb to put on*

well NEW OEM carb, or after market, if NOT OEM< well, NE carb doesn';t mean GOOD carb then!

next, how good is the battery?
these atv's need GOOD battery's and NOT just one's that rewad 12 volts on a volt meter, it needs to be tested under a load to be ruled out, chain auto parts stores will test for free if you take battery to them, takes a few minutes and RULES OUT one thing

next will be this

I have owned ES models for over a decade and the only (knock on wood) challenges experienced with them is a weak battery. I have experienced batteries good enough to start the unit, but unable to shift correctly, so the battery must be strong to make the ES work properly.

Thank you guys for chiming in, I've read the post you posted. I do have the battery out and I'm going to bring it to advance auto after work to see if it's weak. The carb I bought is not OEM but I figured I'd try it first and if it works well enough until I have the factory carb rebuilt I'll be happy with it as a temp solution. I just want the freaking thing running/shifting normal so I have the peace of mind I didn't just throw away $1000. We bought it for our daughters to ride with my wife and I and the guy who sold it to me said it was all good and it did start and ride fine at his house but the hour ride home thing is dead and now my problem to deal with. Thanks again for any input, I appreciate it.

yeah you nee to have battery tested before you can call it GOOD
many seller's use tricks to make things run
like a well warmed up machine when you get there, WHO know's what they used to get it going and a warmed up machine will ALWAYS start easier and seem BETTER
well unless compression is VERY low, then some times a HOT machine will run poorer LOL

e shifts again have TON"S of issue's to many owners, and there are TONS of treads about these issue's
SOME again EVER have issue
s but many more do
E shifts sell due to most folks prefer E shifting than to using a foot, in todays modern world of PUSH a button for everything, its a mind set

but as I said, ALL things have fixes, so hang in there, well get you help as needed

Battery was just tested and they said it was good. Advance Auto did it. And the guy said he use to work at the Honda plant for 10 years. I told him what's happening and he told me tap the ES motor up front and see if that gets it going. I asked 3 time if the was sure the battery was good he said yes

when i got my 2000es in 08, the salesman said, the old guy that drove it only checked his cow's now an then. it did have low hours, an miles. i want to say, 1200 miles. the salesman left out the part, where the old mans wife only drove the car to church on Sundays.. the old lady must ave been using the atv i got, when the front bumper got pushed in some. i did contribute more later on..
if it ran fine, why sell it., an never... EVER trust the guy, when he says it ran fine, when he parked it..
that is a bad sign. LOL's plus!!
