Im fixing up a pretty average 350 rancher 2000 model. I want the elec shift working can i make it work with the motor off or does it need to be running for it to shift gears.

Other issues no dispay on dash backlight works. When you put it in gear front shaft spins but makes a almighty crunching noise but wont drive. And seems like the rear isnt getting any drive. And a tonne of rust in the chassis which im gunna need to chop out and weld new tubes in

Its easier to get ES working while the motor is in the frame because of grounds, harnesses and components integrated so thoroughly into everything, IMO.
Hi mate i did the troubleshooting and found a dead angle sensor. 1 question i have for you is there was oil behind the plate that has all the shift gears ect is that normal. The shift sensor had oil in it aswell

Right, there should not be any motor oil inside the reduction gears housing. Sounds like the oil seal is bad on the front cover where the shift spindle (lowermost shaft) comes out of it.

Do you know if the oil seal is on the outside or will the case need to come off?

the oil seal is behind the shifting cover where all the gears are, once this cover is off, you can see the shifting shaft poking out of the front cover down at the lower bottom right of the motor. you may be able to carefully !!!!!, pry to old oil seal out, and tap a new on back on around the shaft ?, but its easier to do this with the front engine cover off. you may wanna drain the engine oil before you pull the front cover !!..lol.

any reason you could not see the location in the service manual for this oil seal ??. or did you down load the service manual ????.

I looked everywhere in the manual for it but the only thing i found was bearings in the front cover. I got the size of the seal off partzilla so ill just go buy a new 1. Ive just still got the motor on the floor at the moment so havnt taken the shift gear cover back off

Blow the oil out of all of the reduction gears support bearings and repack them by hand with NLGI #2 synthetic grease. Check every bearing to make sure that it is pressed in straight and is level with its chamfered bore edge. Fix any of them that are not...

Take the shift motor apart for a good cleaning and use synthetic grease in those two bearings as well. Pack the armature shaft seal with syn and seal the outer housing to the nose using thin applications of silicone gasket maker on each (clean & dry) mating surface.

Coat every reduction gear with synthetic grease and seal the reduction gears cover down. Don't overtighten the 4 bolts. Apply the gasket maker thinly to the angle sensor mating surfaces as well, before bolting it down.

Finally, apply generous amounts of dielectric grease inside all of the harness connector plugs to seal those up watertight and make sure that the harnesses are clipped back down onto the frame upright tube when you're finished.

in the section for those gears for the electric shift, when you pull the cover off the front of the gears, right behind that cover where the shifting shaft sticks through the engine case, you will see the oil seal.

So i thought i had this sorted after i rebuilt the start motor and put a new angle sensor it but it seems like the shift motor hasnt got enough power to make it shift gears. Will it shift while the motor isnt running. I can hear the motor move but its not shifting
