Hey Everyone... I could really use some help. Cash is tight, rain is falling, and my 4 wheel drive isn't working.

I've done a fair amount of research, but I'm still not clear on the solution.

Here's the problem:

Bike has a strong start and seems to operate fine. 1-2 minutes of riding and the 4 wheel drive indicator starts to blink 4 times. At this point the quad kicks out of 4 wheel drive. To get it to re-engage in 4 wheel, I need to put the bike in neutral, turn it off and restart it. It will then operate in 4 wheel drive for about 1-2 minutes. Before repeating the process...

I understand that 4 blinks is a systems voltage error, but the battery is fairly new, and the bike starts strong. Any suggestions on what the issue is???? I run in a lot of mud and water if that helps.....

Thanks!!!! Eric

Someone more knowledgeable than I will be along to give you technical advice. If you are running in alot of water and mud make sure that you use dielectric grease on all your electical connections including inside the spark plug boot. Get a Honda service manual and it should tell you exactly what the code is. Helmut may even have a downloadable version he can post. Welcome to the forums. There is a bundle of knowledge here.

Welcome to the forums. Check the 10 amp fuse in the fuse box labeled "4wd" for any corrosion on the blades of the fuse. Check the electrical connectors that plug into the front diff and the front final clutch/4wd unit and make sure they're clean and have good connections. Sometimes they get mud and water in the connectors. It's a good idea to put dielectric grease on all the connections to keep out moisture, like jk stated above.

Here are the troubleshooting procedures for code #4.
