Hello everyone, I’m new here. I have a 2006 honda rancher trx400fa. Never had an issue with it until now. It cranks up fine but after a few minutes of riding the engine sputters, cuts off and then there’s a small backfire. I’m able to crank it right back up and then it happens again as I keep on riding. It can idle all day long though, just happens as I’m riding. Any help?

Dirty carb would be my first suggestion, probably wants overhauling and good clean. At the same time clean the fuel tank, replace the fuel line and add an inline fuel filter. Would be worth checking valve clearances too

Pull the spark plug and see if it’s fouled

Sometimes the fuel filters get so dirty the gas trickles through slow, so by the time you start it back up there enough to get it going. May not be the case, but its worth checking for sure IMO.

Replaced the spark plug and it’s all good now. Thanks for the responses y’all!!!
