I have a 2001 foreman 450 and it cranks and idles fine but when I put it into gear it has no power unless I cover the air intake a little bit with my hand then it takes off fine. I know it is some adjustment I should make on the carb but can anyone tell me what to adjust? Thanks -William

unless your carb is filthy..and it needs cleaning/over haul..try adjusting the pilot/air fuel mixture under the bottom of the carb..it's one screw under the carb near the intake boot..also..check to see if your intake boot doesn't have any cracks/ holes in it.kinda sounds like your engine is drawing air other than from your carb to me.

I have cleaned the carb and it was running fine. I drained my carb though and after that is when it started. I have dynojet kit and do not know where to set the pilot screw. The manual says back 2 5/8 turns factory but what should mine be with the jet kit?

In other posts it is mentioned that the pilot screw only affects idle but I am not have any problems with the idle. It is when I put it in to gear it start to spit and sputter. If I cup my snorkel intake a little bit with my hand it picks right up and takes off fine. I have put fresh gas in it and cleaned the carb and tried adjusting the pilot screw.

i'm not to sure on those dyno jets..but..start with factory settings..while the bike is running..screw the pilot screw out or in..listen for the engine..if it starts to sound different..go back the other way..you should be able to hear the difference the motor sounds when you move this screw on way or the other...i use nothing but stock in mine..sooo..these guy's here that run these hight tech stuff probally can give you more help on these dyno jets.

If it ran fine before this started then something is restricting your fuel flow that wasn't there before. You said you cleaned the carb, did you physically poke through each jet and make sure everything was clean? Did you check your petcock valve?

I agree with Red. If it was running fine before, make absolutely sure your carb is clean with no restrictions, before you adjust anything or change the jetting.

Also, check the rubber vacuum piston in the top of the carb and make sure it doesn't have any holes, tears, or leaks or any kind.
