I have a 1999 TRX 300 Fourtrax 4x4. I have owned this for 18 years and it still runs great. However, I have recently had an electrical issue of some kind. When the key is off, the green "neutral" light on the panel stays lit up. Only by taking the key out will the Neutral light go out. Also, the electric start does not work. The battery is new and has full voltage. Connections are good. We replaced the solenoid, which turns out was not the issue. All of the wiring seems to be good and there does not appear to be anywhere where they are grounding out on the frame. I can still kick start the wheeler and doing that it runs just fine, although the head lights do not get very bright for some reason and appear to flicker as the motor loses rpm. We tested all wires for continuity and they seem to be good.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I am pretty much lost at this point. I live in bush Alaska and there is no dealers to take this thing to.

Thanks

I would check all Earth/ground connections and clean again if you’ve already done so. Next step would be to test the charging system, seems like you have a charging issue somewhere if the lights are flickering. I’d also unplug all connections, clean accordingly and plug them back together, a light mist of WD40 wouldn’t go amiss on all connections either. Seems odd that you have a new battery fitted though and the lights are flickering, it should take a while before this happens.
I’d be tempted to charge the battery and see if the flickering stops with a fully charged battery. The neutral light staying on I would most likely say is a sticky ignition barrel, I can’t be certain. Maybe spray inside with WD40 or something similar and work the key several times.
