I have a 93 fourtrx and when i bought it 3 weeks the kids got it goin fine.
When i got it back to the shop the electric start wasn't working. The battery is holding charge but is not 'ramping' up during my reving. If i try to start it, it does nothin. If i try to start it through connecting the seiloid it does nothing. When i hook up a jump battery it starts fine(80% of the time) with the electric start button. When i push the button(when i'm not hooked up to the jump) the light fades from the nuetral light. I find this all very puzzling.
Thank you

bad battery sounds like...can you go right to the starter with some jumper cables from a car battery..one lead on the hot on starter..other on engine ground..if starter cranks..you know it's good..i would say your battery is gone to battery heaven.

Remember that the battery will always show you a charge until you put it under load [unless it's got an internal shorted cell] so just checking the battery without load won't tell you if it's actually good or not.

If the lights dim when you push the start button, then it's likely the battery.

i forgot to mention i did replace the battery first, so mabee i should run down all the connections?
If you know it's a good battery, then yep, check the connections.

let me know what you find out. my electric start doesnt work either. I get a buzzing noise coming from under my seat. not sure if it's the battery but the lights are bright and the console lights (neutral and a couple red lights) are bright as well. Would like to know what you found with yours.

One question, what connections are you checking, specifically?

Thanks!

hey kcarel it sounds like your battery is bad too, but it could be your starter solenoid. try taking a screwdriver and touch it across the 2 bolts on the solenoid and if your starter cranks good then the solenoid is bad, if nothing happens or the starter is slow then its your battery. you'll probably see some sparks when you touch the bolts but that's normal. hope this helps.

I'm not sure if your 93 has one but my dad has a 99 model 300. it was doing the same thing, and it was a voltage regulator. its was located (on his) on the rear on the left side. if i remember right it was about 80 bucks. maybe this will help
