Hi Guys

I have searched the forums and cant find the same symptoms as I have, so if you have the time and the knowledge, feel free to add your suggestions...

I have an elderly 450 foreman (pre 2000), which normally runs great. Last year it stopped working altogether and my auto electrician advised it needed a new reg/rec, which he fitted and all was well.

This spring it was working ok, although I was aware the battery (original) needed replacing, so I ordered one and am currently waiting for it to arrive. Working today, towing my flail mower as I have done many times before and the Foreman just stopped. I found a loose battery connection but that didnt fix it, I cleaned the plug, nope that didnt work, I checked the tank breather pipe, no problem there......checked fuel was reaching the carb, no problem there either.

After repeated attempts the battery finally gave up so I started jumping it from the Landrover...it would start...not immediately but only after high revving with the throttle, and as soon as I let go the throttle it died again . The starter motor isnt the best and it does click some times, but the noise Im hearing is under the seat near the electrics, like a repeated clicking.....could it be a fuel pump?....solenoid?

Any help/advice greatly appreciated cos my mechanic cant look at it for 10 days, and I need to mow now....for horses and donks..........last resort Ill use the Landrover but its a pain cos Ill have to raise the mowers towbar etc etc...

Please help

Well

Main problem wasnt helped by the battery, as you said.

New battery fitted and started first time......starting is no longer a problem, but every now and then it cuts out.....stops idling...but its intermittent fault......fuel reaching carb no problem...fuel breather pipe clear........must be the carb yes?

Sorry to be so long coming back guys...problems on the farm.....

Anyway...starting still sorted.....before dismantling carb, i checked the air filter, and sure enough, the new filter Id bought and fitted......wasnt the same...it had a metal core.......!!!! Removed it, put the old one back on and we had a lot of back-firing, coughing and spluttering...but then it settled down......sooooo...I reckon it was a) the battery b) the wrong filter and c) a carb jet blockage......watch this space......we'll see how it runs next week when Im harrowing
