Appreciate the info goober, I just received the last part of complete rear end rebuild and knew I had to do something with the axle b4 rust started in
this rear axle ?, opss..I thought these were front axles..sorry :). I don't paint rear axles, if the seals are good ?, then nothing should get in there to rust them !.

Yeah its rear axle on 300ex..I've had lots trouble out of rust with old axle..it pitted in some places pretty bad and didn't want new one looking like that in near future if possible
then clear coat it, with clear, it if wears off from chips, at least you won't see shinny when this takes place...lol.

Once I figure out how to post pics on here I will b happy to show the forum team my project at hand..
click post reply button, window opens, click paper clip at the top of that window, another window opens, move the edge over to see upload button, click browse pc, find pic, open it, it should load to the page for uploading ?, after you get 5 pics uploaded ?, hit the upload button on the far right, when they upload, you will see all five files in that box, then click the bottom button that reads submit post :).

I use Rustoleum rust reformer as a primer and then the Fast Dry Professional High Performance Gloss Black. Yeah thems a lotta words but it’s $5 a can:)
Always remove dirt and loose paint. Sand the scaley areas with 100 grit wet and dry. Then wash off all grit and (just before painting) tack with a lint free cloth wetted with paint thinner.
Even rattle can application can be tricky
