Does anyone still use the mighty 400ex as a desert racing machine or is it's 15 minutes of fame over?

The 400EX is a great machine, I have not seen many in the desert racing scene. The only problem with Desert racing them is when you get to the high speed sections it falls short.

You might want to try 300ex's quad I think it would keep up just fine...lol

I think they have an aircooled class, so you'd probably see a few raced under that catagory. I know people race 200cc blasters across the desert in the air cooled class.

Whiplash did not when I raced with them, the CORE series in Colorado does not. Very possible other Series do.

Went to a local mx event this past saturday and a guy was riding a 400ex. He had the stock suspension on it and was actually doing very well against the 450's. It was a small indoor track but I was impressed at the 400.

Anything is possible with a good rider, I highly recommend upgrading the suspension. Good suspension will shave more time off of your lap time than a fully built motor.
