Hey lads, 04 rancher 350 manual shift - backfires when I decelerate, sounds like a decent gun shot. Anything I should be worried about?

Look for a hole in your exhaust pipe or the pipe is maybe loose at the head end. This lets in a little air to allow allow any unburned fuel to burn or explode in your case.

Don't know if you are putting Seafoam in your gas tank or not, but I've noticed that when I put Seafoam in my Rancher's gas tank, it backfires on deceleration, not all the time, but often. I only use Seafoam once in a great while now because of that.

Yeah this was my thought, valves are chattering pretty good. How hard is it to get to the valve cover?

it also can be you need valve adjustmentb ----- because the timing chain is loose and throwing the adjustment off
