Hi guys hope you can help me I’d be v grateful
Honda 420 fm 2009
Wife was out on farm on quad turned off ignition with key
Engine stopped
Sounded like starter motor turned over about 6-7 times then all went dead
Flattened battery(was new)
Now no power, managed to find another battery but just won’t start
All fuses ok, Maybe wiring damaged somewhere?
Changed rectifier a year ago
Battery was charging fine and no other problem except sonetimes the starter button wouldn’t work 1st time?? Over the last few weeks
Can anyone suggest anything

Do you have a spark and fuel getting to the engine?

Hi thanks
No electrics showing on the display
With a good battery attatched the starter turns over automatically even without ignition on or starter pressed but no noise from fuel pump
Then it flattens that battery immediately
Maybe an electrical short?
I can try to use the pull start later to see if it gets a spark
Cheers

It sounds like the solenoid is stuck. You'll need an OEM Honda replacement to fix that. If you have put any aftermarket (china) electrical parts on the bike in the past, you'll need to replace those with OEM as well. Ignore at your own peril.

Have fun!

EDIT: Check the starter button switch for proper operation before replacing the solenoid. It is very quick and easy to do.

sounds like the start switch is bad, as well as the starter solenoid. you said you replaced the rec awhile back, was this oem or some china part from ebay or amazon ?. time to down load the service manual, and going through the electrical test :).

So changed the starter solenoid and it’s fixed, checked the starter button and was fine
Presumably it was stuck on, and got the old one working just by taking off the terminals ,(I was previously getting continuity across the terminal even without the starter button applied) and refitting then but I presume it was on its way out.
Not sure if my missus was riding it round with the starter motor going all the time or just shorted when she turned it off.

Big thanks to all who helped
I was picturing me going thro every terminal on the bike to find the frayed wire so you saved me big time plus it’s essential on the farm
Cheers
Ps I bought an new ignition barrel/wire/keys if anyone needs one as I thought it might be that which should arrive soon I’ll just post it on
