Hi I recently bought a 1999 450 Honda Foreman ES that seems to be a good runner and had a lot of new parts installed but will need some TLC to fix minor issues. Yesterday I changed The oil and filter and now it is shifting much better but I have noticed on occasion the dash read out will call out 2nd gear when you first put it in reverse gear and it is really in reverse then after a brief moment it will change to reverse and the red reverse light will come on. Can anyone tell me which sensor to start looking at first? I haven't had time to strip away all fenders and body panels to check all connectors yet. I'm sure this will be a interesting lesson. I really don't want to take it to a Honda service department because of the price. They want about $400 to do a full service on the machine and I'm retired so I have time to work on it myself.

Thanks

Mike

Sorry can’t help with this problem but here’s a link to the service manual.
I have an 00 450S for a work machine it’s everyone’s favorite.
BTW you can buy a printed manual from dealer or eBay.
Thanks Goober for the help! I was able to find a 1998 owners manual online it shouldn't be much different than a 1999. I down loaded the service manual the day I brought the machine home. The PDF files are better than nothing but I like a book better. I should have a Cylmer repair manual for that machine in my mail box tomorrow but was hoping to shortcut thru someone who has done it before.

Thanks Again

Mike
