Hello to all. I just bought a new 08' 400ex that honda had sitting in a warehouse for almost $2000 off. I love honda atv's and have always wanted one. I was just discharged from the Air Force a few months ago and really want to get into riding and maybe some racing in the future. Love the site so far! Definitely have a lot of questions on different mods I'll be asking in the nearby future.

Im very happy with it. However it does run very hot if your on it for long periods of time or pushing it and it does rob power. I almost wrecked on a double due to the power loss. Still trying for find a solution to that problem. Other than that I love it, would buy it again if I could do it over. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions.

Welcome to the site. They come w/ alot of robbed power out of the box due to epa reg's. The first thing to do is let it breath. Get a slip on or full exaust, take the air lid off or drill holes in it and go w/ a k&n or uni filter. Jet the carb-main and pilot to the pipe spec's and put a big gun cdi or like brand on it. For about 400-500 you will wake up your quad big time. It wont matter if it seems to be running hot or not. Mine allways gets hot and never losses power. There is alot more you can do, but this will get you started. My quad felt like a week machine until I did the mods. Now I love it.

I already have a list of mods I'm looking at, a Lexx slip on exhaust, k&n power lid, dynojet kit, thinking upping to 170 main and 40 pilot for the jets. Thats what Moose thought I should do if you know who that is... Jetting is my weakness right now but I'm learning slowly. I already have a full body armadillo skid and swingarm armadillo skid for protection. I seem to be bottoming out a lot on jumps so I also want to tighten up my shocks a notch or two. We'll see how it goes.

Crank your shocks up as stiff as they go. I steped up my rear tire height 2 inches and it has helped wonders on the trails and jumps for rear clearance.I thought It would gear it less but I didnt notice any loss out of the hole. I still may drop a tooth and see how it goes. I have a full skid plates on mine also. Im not sure the brand because it was bought used off ebay. Jetting is not a big deal. If you want to try just the main jet at first you wont have to remove the carb. You loosen it up, turn it sideways, and unbolt the big cap on the bottom. After that you will see the brass main jet. Use the correct deepwell socket or jet tool and remove it. Screw the 170 main in and your jetted. The pilot is not hard, but you will have to remove the 4 screws on the bottom of the carb to get at it. Let me know if you need some help or info. You can download a free service manual off a link on this site.

Awesome, I did previously find that link for the pilot jet. What do you mean buy stepping up the tire hight... I've never seen or head of that before, or that I'm aware of.

My tire diameter is 1 inch taller, and two inches wider over the stock size. Its not much more but it does give me more rear skid clearence. They bite so much better then the stock tires did also. I no longer get stuck in minor mud like it did before. It gave me a little more top end speed as well. Here is a pic so you can see what im talking about. I can get you the tire size if your interested.
