So it obvious mice have eaten that plug away. I'm pretty sure its part of the main wiring harness so I'm not replacing the entire thing. Any idea where to get that plug? I see the sticky for connectors (which is an awesome site!) but don't see that particular plug.

Another thought is should I even bother? Everything works on the ATV. I don't know what that pink wire does but the ATV runs fine, all lights work. Normally that wire has tape over it. I'm thinking maybe I'm worrying too much. When that plug is plugged in its fairly solid. Opinions?

Thanks! Oh yeah, its a 96 fourtrax 300 4X4.

Yes, they ate though the pink wire. My thumb is kinda pointing at the wire on the first pic. The other wire they ate to the copper and that's why the electrical tape.

Not sure what that wire does as everything seems to work on ATV.

I think this is the connector I need. Goober, I believe the part that's chewed on is part of the main wiring harness. If it were part of the smaller pieces like you posted I would just get new.

I'd have to get a crimper, which are not cheap. I don't mind spending money but I'd only need for this 1 plug! I'd also have to splice more wire into existing harness to make it work. Not sure what I'm going to do. ATV runs fine now. That plug has been that way for years.

And again, that sticky with the motorcycle connectors is great! Even gives instructions on how to use the crimper for that style plug.

i'm not sure what type of crimper your looking for.. E-pray has got a channel lock 908 brand new, for less than $15.oo delivered. that is close to what i paid 20-30 years ago. its a wire stripper/crimp tool.
might as well give it a look.

That sticky for motorcycle connectors has a link for crimp tools. I don't think that channel lock crimper is capable of crimping those style connectors. I have a crimper like that. The crimper needs to crimp around the wire itself and also into the insulation. According to that site its $32.00 which is pricey for a 1 time use. I may be reading all that wrong and maybe the channel lock style crimper is also capable and I just don't know.

I may get the connector I need and a bunch of terminals. Then I can practice.

Is it a pink and white wire? Is it completely severed? Does your oil light ever come on?

My fan might be powered by that circuit but if you don’t have a fan the maybe that circuit deadends at the ig switch or alarm unit

Yes looking at the picture more closely its pink and white. Its completely severed. Had the end covered with electrical tape so as not to make contact with anything.

The oil light comes on for a few seconds when the key is turned and then shuts off. I think that is normal? Neutral light, reverse lights, headlights and taillights all work. Battery holds a charge. Runs fine.

Mine does not have a fan. If that controls the fan I'm not going to bother with replacing the plug! It still plugs in tight.

I'm not good at reading electrical schematics. I'll have to get a copy and sit in front of wheeler and try to figure it out. I will assume the letters next to the wires are for what color the wires should be?

Sounds good yup that’s what the oil light is supposed to do.

The last thing to check then is the accessory plug sticking out forward and right of the dash panel.

Pull the cap off of the plug and gripping both sides of the plug remove it. Dont let the insert pop out these are old and become brittle with age. Use your test light to see if you get 12v in the socket when your wheeler is switched on. If not, then this accessory may be affected by the P/W

Thanks it’s an old Honda work light option–it spring-clips into a rigid mount on the carrier.

Ram sells a very similar kit

No power at the accessory plug. That must be it. Double checked myself by checking the accessory plug on my 84 Big Red. Power on the Big Red, no power on the fourtrax 300.
