D!%$# bearing snap ring disintegrated

492 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Jeepwm69
Trying to put bearings in a 420 knuckle.

The bearing had more or less disintegrated, and the snap ring was seized in the groove.

I got one end started out with needle noses, but then the end broke off.

The ear on the other end is broken off too.

Any trick to this other than soaking it and using a punch and hammer? I tried that last night for awhile and this thing is STUCK.

somehow stake/hold one end with a punch in place, then tap a sharp end punch underneath the other end. if that makes sense.
try heating up whats left of the snap ring with a torch then use an awl and a hammer or maybe a Dremel with a thin cutting wheel and grind it out

@jeep, I've done this trick a few times ^^^^, it works pretty good for me.
I'll try Manny's solution first.

My regulator on my torch broke off before I ever even got to use it. I normally heat disposable things by hitting them with my wire welder but I don't want to weld the circlip to the knuckle!
