I have a 300 fourtax with a cracked crankcase at the drain plug. Does anyone know if other engine sizes/models interchange, I have heard that the 250 is the same is this true?

300 had electric start 250 didn't im not sure if it will.
However the only difference other than that is the bore/stroke

A fellow has a 250es and he says it was electric start, so I should stay away from him if they didn't have electric start?

250ES has electric 250X does not....What years are the engines you are trying to swap??? you left that out of your OP.
