Cooling Fan

Hello all on my 04 Rancher 350 TE i noticed a fan in front of the motor and have not seen it come on since i bought it a few weeks ago. Im guessing a fuse or sensor went. I was wondering if you could tell me the location of sensor and how to test and see whats working.

Thanks

Helmut would probably be the best to talk to about that.
First, check the fan motor fuse. If it's good, unplug the wire from the oil temp sensor and temporarily ground it. Turn the key on and both the oil temp light and the fan should be on. If both come on, this tells you the fan motor is working and the fan control unit is working. If the fan comes on when you do this test, but it still doesn't come on when riding the ATV, then your oil temp sensor may be bad. Note that the engine has to get pretty hot before the fan will kick on, so you have to run it pretty hard or it won't kick on.
only time my fan ever comes on is going threw grass slow or just slow in general.
Im going to do what Helmut said first then go from there.

Thanks for the replies.
the fan oly goes on for riding up to 20 mph for me not if youre going fast

If you run it hard long enough, it will come on, even if going fast. If you get on the road and run it WOT for a few minutes, it will kick on.
is it still safe to ride for a while if its on?

Yeah, the fan is supposed to keep it at a safe temperature.
