I just got my 03 recon back from the machine shop.i had it bored with a new piston and rings installed.i broke it in at low speed and idiling through 2 tanks of gas over a several day period. then i rode it kind of hard but not extreme. the bike started smoking ,now i cannot even get it to run.i ran a compression check and got 90psi. am i looking at a failed rebuild or do i having valve problems?

My first guess would be the rebuild. But check the valves, seats also to be sure.

Agree^^^^^^!!!A valve could have failed.

Take some oil and quart a little bit in the jug and put the spark plug in and check the compression. If it comes back up its the rings and if it stays the same its the valves. What kind of oil did you use for the break in period?

i used 20w50.i did the wet compression test and it didnt build pressure at all the needle fluctated between 0 and 30.i had 90 dry.is it even able to run on 90 shouldnt it be around 120 ?

It shouldn't run with just 90psi it will have to be close to the 120
