hey guys tonight i pulled my clutch cable loose to lube it and i got it all back together and set up the free play like the service manual says ( 1 inch to 1inch and 1/4 ) only now when i release the clutch lever the clutch grabs sooner like before i would have to let the lever out about an inch to and inch and a half and now the clutch grabs almost as soon as i start to release it do you think something is wrong or do i have it adjusted wrong thanks for you input

What are you working on? a new clutch should grab a little sooner but not excessively. I think you make all the adjustments at the engine and set the lever play at the bars? try loosening the cable a little and take up the lever play at the lever. Just a guess.

I agree. If you want the clutch to grab a little later, loosen it up a little at the adjustment on the engine.

its a 2008 400ex and i left the adjustment at the handle alone and tried to do all the free play adjustment from the engine also its new i just bought it in may has about 48 hours on it i just decided to lube the cable just in case there was moisture in the cable i did not want it to freeze during the winter months

first let me say sorry i read my service manual wrong and man i feel like a dumb head the inch setting is for adj the parking brake free play the clutch cable free play is 3/8 - 3/4 so i went back out and readj the cable and now it works great just like it did before but i just wanted to fill you guys in on my mistake
