Cleaning out old transfer case oil??

I bought a used transfer case off eBay and all seems to be in great shape. All the bearings are tight and it spins real nice. But it smells awful and I want to clean out all the old oil that's in it.

I don't really want to open up case I don't think the gasket is readily available. Is there something I can run threw it to clean it out?

Also what do you guys run in your transfer case? I've seen guys fill them with marine grease.

dont split it !. the gasket is no longer around !!!. I run same gear oil that goes in the front and rear diff's...80w-90 full syn gear oil. if a gasket was around ? ( they are not ! ), you could just split it, wash it out that way with just about any kind of cleaner, I would use my parts washer in this case. in your case, just drain it, re-fill with fresh 80w-90 gear oil, and call it done :).
you could even run reg motor oil in there if you did not have any gear oil ?, as this has no clutch to worry about, just gears and bearings, no clutches. JUST DONT RUN AUTO OIL IN THE MOTOR !!...LOL.

as long as its made for wet clutches ?. your good, if not ?..well..lord help ya !..lol.
IF your looking to flush the case, toss some diesel fuel in, then rinse with gear oil multiply times until ur happy it’s all out.....
I see folks say flush with diesel a lot, but seeing how it has a flash point ?, something just tells me this is not a good idea.

Diesel fumes don't ignite, just gas fumes.
i'd still would not want to take that risk..regardless if it wont do it for thiers ?. my luck..sure enough..BOOM !!..LOL.
