if you can change a spark plug..then you can clean a carb in a atv..( as long as it's not fuel injected )..simple to do. remove the carb from the engine, remove any throttle cables..choke cables, take any o-rings off that may stick to the intake boot side of the carb, remove the carb float bowl, remove all the jets from the carb bowl, remove the float..float needle..remove the air/fuel screw thats on the bottom front of the carb...make sure to get the tiny o-ring out of the screw hole..and don't loose the tiny washer...after all this is done..give it a good spray of gum out carb cleaner..or you can use a product called carb dip..this is a gallon can..with a screen bucket you dip your carb parts..or the whole carb down into..and let set over night..or a few hours..i like to use the gum out spray cleaner...i hate waitting..lol..after you get the carb cleaned..blow the carb out with some compressed air..in every hole of the carb..then..check your main jet..and idle jet for anything that didn't get cleaned out of the center of it..hold them up to a good light..and see if you can look through the center of it ???..if so..put it all back together..hook everything back up..all cables..crank it up..see how it runs...oh..if you take the air/fuel mixture screw out..count how many times you turn it in..then record this number when you put it back in from a lightly seated...back it back out the number you wrote down.

Take the plastics off, take the gas tank and airbox off. unhook the throttle cable, loosen the clamp holding the carb to the intake boot. Pull the carb. off, flip it upside down take out the 4 screws holding the bowl on remove bowl. With a flat head screw driver remove the pilot and main jets. The main will be right there in the center where you can see it ( it's brass ) and the pilot will be recessed in a round slot next to the main jet( also brass ). Also remove the needle valve it will be connected to the float. Where the float is connected to the carb. there is a a pin push the pin out from one side and the float and needle will lift out, spray carb. cleaner in all the orifices including where the needle valve goes. Spray the jets run a piece of wire through them till you can see daylight through them when everything is clean installation in the reverse of removal. P.S. putting cleaner in the gas won't work. Part #32 main jet, part #33 main jet Covington, Louisana, Honda, Power Equipment, ATV, Motorcycle, Scooter, Dealer, Used, Parts, Service, Financing, Apparel, Accessories, Shop Online

I think you meant to say that #33 is the slow jet.

lol n328..you still posted a good job of doing it bro..only thing i seen that may be off..you mentioned running a wire through the jets..well..you forgot to say what wire..what size ??..lol..most ppl..including myself use ONE WIRE FROM A WIRE BRUSH..nothing bigger..or it will distort the jet opening.

SW, a lot of times it helps to take pictures as you go so that you have a referance to go by when putting it back together. Also use a large tupperware container when you take it apart and lay everything out in order as you take it apart, then after it's clean just reverse the order. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can.

Yeah, Yeah main jet, pilot jet, there all the same right? Just kidding, thats what happens when I get to typing faster than I can think it. About the wire I use 2 strands of speaker wire twisted together seems just right for jets but on the other hand I've never thought of one from a wire brush. Once you do one it'll be easy.

Sometimes, I tear the plastic or paper coating off a trash bag tie, just leaving the wire and that works pretty good.

Very good info, also if some of the stuff on the carb is rusted, I use a product called Evapo-Rust ,this stuff is amazing!( environmental friendly) all you do is put enough in a container that will totally cover what ever you have that is rusted, then wait over night, then rinse with warm water and the rust is totally gone, parts will look like new! some times if after the over night soaking, you might have to lightly hit it with a wire brush, but usually not. Get a chance go to you tube and goole evaporust and watch some of the video demos, this stuff is no joke...

hey i just cleaned my carb on a 99 recon! when i put the needle valve assembly back together my trotlle is full depresed and wont com out. is there a ajustment?
Welcome to the forums. When you put the throttle valve back in the top of the carb, you might not have put it in right. There's a cutout that lines up with the throttle adjustment screw on the side of the carb. Did you line the cutout up with the throttle screw? Also, look through the carb and make sure the needle starts down into the hole before screwing the top on. Sounds like something is holding the throttle valve up.
