2004 TRX350FM Rancher 4x4. I replaced the crank myself due to conecting rod issues and got it all back together last night. It runs great but I must have messed something up with the tranny. I cant get it in neutral. I put it on jack stands and it seems like it is in first gear when I get the wheels turning then I shift up and everything stops, it will not move forward or reverse the wheels are locked up. There aren't any real bad noises or anything when I shift. I am going to pull it all back apart and redo it all but I wanted some opinions on what to look for as I tare it apart agian. Im pretty sure it is something with the shift forks and thier placement in gearshift drum. If anyone has any sugestions they are much appreciated.
Thanks

yeah.you got the shifting forks out of wack..i just done a crank job on my 2000 350tm rancher...thank god i had a manual !..the tranny gears is scary !..lol..your gonna have to tear it back apart..and recheck your gears and shifting forks..yeah..i know..its a pain..been there..done that..make sure you didn't leave any washers out..or put them in the wrong place..i made sure i went step by step from my service manual...and yes..your right..you do have the gears or shifting forks wrong..not sure you have a service manual.but it sure makes it easy to go by..you get one gear out of placement..and it won't work right...at least you already know what to look for..thats called learning as you go !..lol.

lol ya thanks I have a manual and went by it. I pulled each gear set apart cleaned it and put it together as per teh diagram. The only thing i wasnt sure about in the manual was teh shift drum. I wish there was a way to check shifting with out puttin the front cover on.

i'm sure it's like mine..the shift drum has 3 groves in it..DO NOT COUNT THE VERY BOTTOM ONE !..this is for the reverse..( i studied this alot before i put mine back together )..lmfao..start at the second from the bottom..the shift fork should face the main gear..the other 2 shift forks face the idle gears..if you place the main fork into the second from the bottom on the shift drum..you should be ok from there..you probally put the first shift fork into the very bottom grove..i feal for ya having to take it back apart..( shiver )..and yes..you can check all the gears before you put the front cover back on..just put the shifting arm back on the shift shaft..carefully shift through all the gears while you spin the idle gears..you can watch the gears as they go from one gear to the next. let me know how it turns out.

I was very careful to make sure all the groves were at teh right spots i know what you are talking about with what forks go where and what not. the thing that sucks the most is i was so certian that i did it right, damn.

bikebandit.com , cheapcycleparts.com..or ebay..bikebandit is fairly cheap..good products though !..as for wondering if you done it right..yeah..i get that fealing alot myself..after i tore mine down..and got it back together..and went through all the gears..i still worried if i got it right..lmfao..after 14 yrs of doing atc's..and atv's..and motor cycles..this was my first case on this 2000 rancher i had to split the case..and change out the crank due to a bent connecting rod on the crank..lmfao..soo..yeah..like you..i had my doubts..lmfao.

ya they all hace oem parts but i ddint find any aftermarket from them. I have found partspitstop to be the all around cheapest to get parts from. the wieghts were 82 bucks from them so i was hoping aftermarket might be better and cheaper.

finding cheap parts..well..thats what you get...cheap parts !!!..this tells me it won't last long..i'm sure you've heard this before...'' you get what you pay for !'' ???keep this in mind when you buy after market parts that cost soo cheap..now..don't get me wrong..on some things..i go cheap...fuel filters..stuff like that...but..when it comes to engine parts..i stick with oem..or dang near oem..( depends on if they still make them )..lol..soo..buyer beware is all i'm saying.
