Need some help, having trouble adjusting the chain on my 2001 400ex. I have loosened the bolts on the bottom of the bearing carrier but can not get it to move forward or backwards. Reading this out of a clymer manual. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have a spanner wrench? If not you gotta get one. Shock wrenches will work on certain applications but i found an adjustable spanner and it makes life easy. Second, the bolts on the carrier have to be really loose , its also a good time to let any water that got caught up in there drain out. Then you just turn the carrier and the chain tightens along with it. You said you have the book so be sure and check the chain slack.. I always tighten everything and go out and get on it for a bit then check the slack again.

Agree^^^^ once you loosen the 4 bolts you should be able to roll the collar on the sprocket side fairly easy
