I have a 1998 Fourtrax 300 and was wondering if the cdi box was bad would the bike run at all? Ive been trying to fix my electric start. Im missing the green neutral light completely however none of the other dash lights work either. A guy recommended I get a replacement neutral light as well as a cdi box to try and fix it. Do any of y'all think this would work?
New solenoid, battery showed to have good voltage and looks new
Recently put new voltage regulator on because bike would crank up and idle perfect but then bog down anytime you gave it throttle. Just FYI in case that has something to do with it.

My understanding of a properly wired ignition circuit if you're not getting a neutral light you will not get the starter to crank
If the indicator light bulb is burned out it will not inhibit starting

If the CDI is bad you could crank but might not fire or run. I've had a bad CDI where the bike would sputter but not run; also heard some instances where riders get no spark at all. You need that green lamp to be sure you neutral switch enables the start circuit

buying a cdi will not fix your neutral light problem.

it could be as simple as a bad connection at the neutral sensor, cut wire, or a bad sensor.

before you purchase anything, you need to inspect your neutral sensor located down by the right foot peg on the engine over.

Well we tried to ground out the neutral switch as well but nothing changed. The middle hole were the neutral light goes only has two wires (green and black) that both look new because they haven't been spliced yet or they just cut them off. So what could be the problem that is not allowing any of the other dash lights to work?

no power coming back out of the ignition switch would be my guess, just had this same problem on a 2001 trx350fm rancher, no lights, tested to ignition switch, was getting power in, but not out !. pull the ignition switch out of the dash, and check all the wires under the switch !. a 12 volt dc test light is a life saver !!!.

Ok I'll try that. I know we just put a completely new ignition switch on the other day. Do you think the ignition coil could have anything to do with it.

The coil has nothing to do with no working indicator lights. Is it an OEM Honda ignition switch that you installed? If not, it may be wired in wrong. Thats a common china made problem with fLeebay parts... but they won't last long wired up right either. The FSM shows which switch wire colors should have continuity with the key on. You can check it with a test light or a multimeter.

Trx 300s had a cdi box issue where they would not spark while cranking with electric start. Let off the button and it sparks last couple revolutions of the engine. No lights can be as simple as all burnt out, quad is 19yrs old, or electrical failure. Without seeing its all a guess. The fact no lights work and if all bulbs are good, the commonality is the ground. Good luck, I hope it all works out.
