My 2000 350 rancher ES is leaking gas out of the back line that is attached to the rear axle. Everyone is saying it's the float hung or there's trash in it. I really am not good with carbs anyone have any advice on this? Someone said to let it run all the gas out of it and put fresh in and it might help it I don't know I'm just trying to get it up and running my son is about to drive me crazy and it needs to be ran. I'm trying my best not to take it to the Honda shop where they're going to charge a lot for. Thanks everyone.

Chances are you'll need to service the petcock and screen in the fuel tank first... the screen is probably rotted out and falling apart by now. If you have been putting ethanol laced fuel in it then everything in there is probably rotted and junk.

Honda still sells replacement parts for the 350 Ranchers. If you buy any cheap parts off ebay or amazon you'll be wasting all of your time and money too, cause those won't ever fit or work on any bike! You'll either have to be very skilled in the trades and fix/rebuild what ya got... or you'll have to buy OEM Honda parts and pay some skilled (and honest) old-timer to fix it right and get the bike running.

The carburetor probably can be cleaned and returned to service for almost nothing (less than $20 for Berrymans Chemdip) if it is still 100% OEM. I just saved a really bad one that had been sitting for over 10 years with rotten fuel in it and I didn't even need to buy a repair kit. I own a 31 year old Foreman that has all original parts in the carb too, except for rubber o-rings replacements.

Again, If you (or your mechanic) chose to buy cheap non-OEM china parts, you will have buy them again, because knockoffs don't ever fit and don't ever work in any carb. Don't ever forget that.

The unit is 18 years old and if you are planning on keeping it for fun, etc., then I would give it a deep "fuel" service and enjoy it for many years ahead. Like retro mentioned, buy quality materials and would suggest (deep clean of tank, change all fuel lines, service and/or replace petcock as well as carburetor with OEM).

A 2000 ES very nice; ever had other probs with it? How many miles/hours? How often do ya take it in?

Chances are it needs the tank drained and flushed, carb cleaned and rebuilt, valves set, brake fluid changed, diff and engine oils everything in the service manual PE. Download manual from the link in my sig block—this is a great op for you and your boy to take some of it on

It’s time to replace the float valve and probably rebuild the carb. It will take you a weekend to do it. Buy OEM Parts only; if an OEM kit is unavailable then get a Shindy rebuild kit.

Please don’t be put off about taking it in for maintenance at the Honda shop. The guys at my shop a great--we know each other, they know what I like and ok labor rate is $125 an hour. If a PE for your unit runs $375, that’s $75 a year over the five years you’ll get out of it.

If you cant afford a Honda carb, dont be afraid to try a $45 aftermarket one. I have had good luck with cheaper carbs, my thinking is this modern gas kills them anyways. The ones Ive had look identical to OEM and run very good. Everything else is OEM, though. Most cheap aftermarket parts flat out wont fit and are junk.
