Hello to all, new member here. I just got a 1997 Honda TRX250 Recon given to me. It was not running. I took carb off cleaned it and all the jets, removed gas tank and the yellow gas that was inside. Flushed tank clean, discovered petcock on bottom was plugged completely closed with clay like material. Removed plug got tank really clean, petcock leaks through will not hold (I will replace it later). Got a good battery changed oil on engine and new spark plug. Got it to fire up and run with choke pulled open but dies as soon as choke closes. The carb is a Keihin with the letters KTB under the name. I can't seem to find a model number on it to order a rebuild kit so I thought the next best option would be to order a new carb. Looking for suggestions on aftermarket carb for this old horse or does anyone have any idea how to tell which Keihin carb I have so I could try a rebuild kit first? I tend to think a new carb might be a better option but unsure. I intend to use this little Honda around our farm for work not hot rodding or racing it.
Thanks for any and all help.

just look for an after market carb kit from shindy for your year/model. DO NOT RUN/RIDE IT UNTIL YOU REPLACE THE FUEL PET COCK !. don't waste your money on an after market china carb !!!. if you must buy a carb ?...BUY OEM FROM HONDA !.

I have this same ATV and it has the original, Keihin carb. The model number on mine is CIBALBH. The last letter "H" is possibly "A". It's difficult to read. I would not spend the money on a new carb unless the old carb is damaged. I rebuilt mine with no problem. Well, no problem that @shadetree could not solve. LOL

just buy the carb rebuild kit I linked you ^^^^^^, and fix it. you don't need any spec model number on your carb, that is, unless it already has an after market carb on it ???, if its oem right now ?, buy the carb rebuild kit I linked, and fix it :).

shadetree I have no idea if it's OEM or aftermarket, like I said I can't find any info on this carb model number.
post a pic of the carb in this thread. most of us can tell by seeing it. the number one thing that gives an oem away from a china after market carb ?, is the fuel inlet !!. all oem carbs from honda have a brass fitting pressed into them, where is, after market china carbs have a stupid plastic inlet made into them :).

I have a 98 recon and I put a new carb on it. I made he mistake of putting an. eBay carb on and it didn’t fit or work. I ordered an oem carb from oartzilla or eBay. Be careful with eBay they craft the description to make it sound like its oem

and we try to tell this to everyone...STOP BUYING FROM AMAZON AND EBAY !. go to places like partzilla, rocky mountain atv, or your local honda dealership...AND BUY OEM FROM THEM !. ebay, amazon, sells nothing but china after market junk !.
