I bought a new carburetor for my 02 trx250ex and it the carburetor cap is has a wider diameter than the original. I can't figure out for the life of me how to remove the old carburetor cap from the throttle cable.

Thanks for letting me know... I guess I'll just do some serious cleaning on it. Do you think some of the components from the knockoff (ie, rings, gaskets, springs, bolts, screws, floats, etc.) can be used to replace original parts?
Nope! Get a gallon of Gunk carb cleaner. Take your carb apart completely following the FSM instructions for disassembly and reassembly. Once you sure that all rubber parts are removed, put all of the hard parts into the carb cleaner and let them soak at least 24 hours. Then blow every hole, passage, jet etc. out using compressed air and reassemble to specs per the FSM.

Be careful taking it apart... there are tiny o-rings etc., that can fall out and ruin your day.

I've never used a Chinese carb but from what I gather you can use the rubber parts (if they fit) but your better off buying new OEM jets/screws etc

You can swap gaskets and o-rings if they fit but the float valve rarely works.... may leak uncontrollably... best to buy OEM or reuse the original if its still in decent condition.
