1990 300 fourtrax. It will shift into reverse without the button on the handle bar. Not an issue for me, but my 10 yr old rides it and I’d like to fix the problem. So what is the problem. Thanks in advance.

Inspect the reverse lever, the reverse pin may be stuck in the lever. Or the cable may be frozen in place

first questions come to mind , did you buy it used , has it always been that way that you never needed to depress the button , do you have to pull the lever ----PO may have by-passed it or the cable frozen

are you the original owner? has the clutch cover been off recently? if so its possible the reverse lockout shaft was installed incorrectly.

I am not the original owner. It has done this ever since I bought it. I will check out the cable while I’m working on it Sunday.
