Managed to get out around the farm today on my ATV. Whilst sat there ticking over and waiting for it to warm up I noticed a very slight ticking noise, If I just touch the throttle slightly the ticking disappears.
Is this possibly cam chain tension? If yes, how do I cure it before it gets worse?

if its a cam chain normally it will get louder on acceleration, will not go away with any change in RPM.

to check, just pull your tensioner and try installing it with the arm fully extended. if it mates to the block you are severely stretched to the point its going to jump time.

however, when they get that loose, they have a very loud tick that will not quiet down.

Cheers Manny. This is a very slight tick, that slight I had to get a work friend to listen to it to double check. The ticking disappears and doesn't return throughout the rev range, not that I can hear anyway. I'll set the tappets/rocker arm clearances at some point, that would rule out the obvious I guess.

Every 300 will have a slight tick. Just by design of the top end. But yes, for the time it will take to adjust the valves I would.

Adjusted tappets/clearances, was only a very minor adjustment but it has stopped that slight tick.
Result :)
