I may be buying a 1996 or 97 Honda ForeTrax 300 4x4...the asking price is $1000.

Cons:

* Needs tires all around (What is the stock size of these tires?)
* Front Mud guard needs new bolt to hold in place
* Small dent on the side of the tank
* Seat has 2 inch tear

Pros:

* Plastic in decent shape
* No slop in steering
* No smoke when starting
* No leaks
* Tail Light (Does it have brake lights?) If so, they don't work.
* Suspension feels tight (I'm new to this!)
* Seems to run good and shifts good

What else do I need to look at and is $1000. in the ballpark for what I should pay. How much for a set of stock tires? My plan for this bike is for hunting purposes...scouting, riding to hunting areas, carrying gear, etc.

Im pretty sure it has a brake light. Yo will pay an arm and leg for stock tires go with after market you will probly get a better tire too. Not sure on stock size but any supplier could look up the right size and a 100000pennies is probly a decent price. I have heard of people buying junk for more and it does not sound like junk. Good luck with your buy. Also buy a service manual they help alot.

BUY IT!!! tires are the easy part, I wouldn't care about a brake light personally, bolts are easy to get and cheap too. tank dents are easy to get out as long as they are not on a line, just remove the tank take the lid off fill it up with water about a 1/2 inch from the top put the cap on and toss it in the freezer (upright) water expands when frozen therefore removing the dent atleast 80 to 90% of it let it thaw clean it out really good put it back on filler up and ride. Then go on ebay and get yourself a seatcover for about 30 to 40 bucks shipped. Hope this helps

I just bought a 97 TRX 300 4x4 for $1295. Owned by an older gentleman who says he used it mainly to give rides to his grandkids in the back yard. It's never been in mud. Neat as a pin. It has one small dent in the top of the tank otherwise VERY clean. Not a scratch on it other than the tank. Runs like a top as well. Never owned a 4 wheeler before. NADA lists it at $1600. Think I got a good buy.
