Hey what do you guys think. Is this ATV worth buying and fixing up? I am looking for a honda for my girlfriend to use and didn't know if this would be a good deal after the repair costs.

"I've got a 2004 honda 250 recon fourwheeler the motors runs excelent and the bike itself is in good shape but the only problem is the bike wont move.
On the rear side of the drive shaft the splines are busted causing the driveshaft to slip in the rear-end and not move the bike.Problem may be fixed for a couple hundred bucks"

Thanks for any input

Welcome to the Forums!!

If that's the only issue I would go for it too. but it also depends on how much your going to be spending to buy it too.

Well considering I am no mechanic I honestly would have no clue, and have to take his word about it's problem. Oh I forgot to put in my post that he wants 750.00.

Yeah, if you can get a good deal on it. Sounds like the drive shaft and pinion shaft might have to be replaced. If the splines on the drive shaft are damaged, the splines on the pinion shaft probably will be too.

If the engine runs good, probably the biggest thing that could be wrong with it is that the whole rear end might need to be rebuilt. Just look at it like the whole rear end is bad and see what it would cost to get it fixed. If it's more than you want to spend, then it might be a good ideal to move on.

if you can get the rear end rebuilt for that price..jump on it..butttttttt..unless your buying off..say..ebay for the ring gear..pinion gear, seals..bearings,drive shaft..it's gonna cost a small fortune to rebuild that rear end..just the ring and pinion gear alone < new >..will set you back about 300 or 400 bucks..this is if you go anywhere outside of ebay !..and yes..you can not replace just the ring gear..you should replace them as a set..well..it's a good idea anyway....now..if you can purchase all of the parts off ebay for what you seen...get them !..i'm not sure if you have ever rebuilt a atv rear end..but..if you haven't..your going to need two spec tools to remove the pinion gear, this is if you don't know how to fab your own????..lol..i made my own..but..to buy them..they don't come cheap...if you need any advice..just holler.

I doubt if I could get them at my local Honda dealer. I would rather make mine, anyway, than to pay what they would want for them. I couldn't even buy a repair manual from them. I had to order it and it was supposed to come in the next week and it didn't. They told me it would be in the next week and it wasn't. Then, they told me, again, it would be in the following week and it wasn't. I just forgot about it. I knew something was funny when he wouldn't let me pay for it ahead of time. He just said, "We'll have some in next week." I don't think they had any intentions of selling me one. I didn't need one that bad, anyway.

you can use a 250 recon or a 250ex rear end they are the same exact thing that may help you find a cheaper rear end if it comes down to it
