Dumb question but can I use dot 3 brake fluid in my 400ex? Ive got plenty of that layin around but the quad says to use only dot 4 and i have no idea what the difference is.

DOT 4 has a higher boiling point than DOT 3. Using DOT 3 probably isn't going to hurt anything, but use at your own risk.

If you plan on doing any racing, I would stick with the DOT 4.

Do not use dot3 use dot 4 or dot 5 the dot 3 attracts more moisture than dot 4 and the dot 5 is a synathic that won't attract moisture i use the dot 5 it also has a higher boiling point than the lower dot fluids.

and just for your information...the dumb question is when you didn't ask !..never a dumb question around here...if you get stumped..ask away..i'm sure we've all been down that road at one point in life..lol.

Make sure to completely drain your old brake fluid before using dot 4 brake fluid.
