Hey guys. I need a little help fixing an issue. I have a 2006 TRX450R. I use it to trail ride. It always starts up. When I go over hills or turns that lean the quad it wants to bog down. If i nurse the throttle it eventually catches up. When I hit the throttle hard, it hesitates, only in 1st gear, then takes off. It also has a slight ticking sound. I have cleaned the carb and changed the plug and it still has the same issue. Any ideas on what else it could be?

Ticking would suggest a stretched timing chain or early signs of piston/ring wear.

As for the bog/hesitation.. How well did you clean the carb? It HAS to be surgically clean. Treat it like a brain transplant. At the same time, clean the fuel tank, replace the fuel line and fit an inline fuel filter.
Try again as per the above and let us know how you get on.

Thanks will check out the timing chain. Someone else told me that the timing could be off and cause it to bog on turns. I cleaned the carb the best I could. I might have to pay someone. I lost my hand back in January so I tried lol. Maybe I didnt get it clean clean. I will tear it down again. Gives me something to do lol. Thank you for the info. I'll let you know how I make out.

Yes, timing chain could be stretched or may have jumped a tooth in time. Definitely worthwhile checking it out.

Best thing to do with your carb is take your time, clean it externally the best you can before stripping it down. When you start to tear into it, do so on a white surface so you can see any dirt/debris. Have a tub of carb cleaner near by to wash off all parts as you take it apart.
Soak the carb in carb cleaner overnight, use small bottle brushes to clean passages and oxy acetylene torch nozzle files/cleaners to clear out jets. If you have a compressor, blow every passage and jet before reassembly.

Best advice...

If you wouldnt eat food off your carb then it's not clean enough..! Lol..

What ever you do though, clean the fuel tank and add an inline filter once the carb is clean. You'll be wasting your time otherwise.

Sorry to here about your injury, one thing I do know though, you'll do just as good a job cleaning that carb as any of us :)

Keep us posted
