Recently i changed the piston and piston rings on my 2003 honda rancher 350 es. And, as of last week i changed the fuel filter, obviously the wrong size, though it was bigger. At first it ran well, then i lost some power, thought it was from the water we went through that day. Well today i noticed light smoke coming from exhaust, gave her hard gas and out came black smoke, thick. Drove her around the house and struggled to get to 23 MPH, while in the past ive reached 40 easily. Could this have something to do with the carb? Or the new fuel filter allowing too much fuel to enter the carb? Please help...

It's not your fuel filter size. Check your air filter.

If you think the carb is dirty and contributing to the problem you could rebuild it.
I would Perform a compression check.
