I have a 2011 Foreman 500. I recently put a Triangle ATV 2" snorkel on it. Ever since, the bike won't idle without the choke. No matter how long I let it warm up for, it dies about 5 seconds after taking off the choke. I understand I'm getting too much air right now so my fuel-air is off. Would turning up my idle be a fix for it or would it possibly damage my transmission and gearbox as I shift at higher rpm's? I'll rejet it if I need to (which I'm sure would be the best bet) but is there any way to know what size jets I need? I've never touched a 4 wheeler motor

If you know you are getting too much air, back your mixture screw out until it idles smoothly, then test ride. If throttle response is good, you should be ok. You can do a plug chop though just to make sure.

The mixture screw should be on the bottom of the carb. Turning it in will decrease fuel (lean) and turning it out will increase the fuel (rich). Just be sure and tighten it until it becomes snug counting the turns before you start. Turn it back out to where you started and use 1/8 turn increments until you get it right. You do a plug chop by running the quad down the road at operating temperature for about 30 seconds at full throttle while shifting through the gears. Immediately after the 30 seconds, shut down the engine. You need a new plug to do this as well. Push the quad to wherever you work on it and pull the plug. Look at the bottom of the plug at the resistor (the white ceramic inside the I.D. of the threads). If your mixture is right, the plug should be a caramel color. A lean condition will be white and a rich condition will be black or dark brown. You really need to do this with a new plug until you get it right or at least pretty close to the caramel color. Good luck!
