Biggest tires with no gear reduction

Hey guys I was wondering what's the biggest/most aggressive tires I can run on my 95 4x4 with out doing a gear reduction, I'm also thinking about doing the 2 inch lift. I don't want todo a gear reduction because I do a lot of riding on shell roads but I also go through some thick mud and I do not want to loose to much of my top end speed. Thanks

I'm guessing by your name it's a 300 fourtrax you have.

I've recently fitted new aggressive tyres and found I can only spin them in deep mud when in first/low gear. Knowing what I know now I'd have opted for slightly less aggressive so I could spin them in 2nd gear. See my signature for tyre type and size.
So, in my opinion, the bigger you go the less aggressive you want to go unless you plan on a BBK or some kind of power upgrade.

I certainly wouldn't go any bigger than 25" with an aggressive mud tread, I'd probably go for 8" wide too.

I would agree with 25's, maybe 26" if you run skinnys and stay with something somewhat sensible. Like 26" skinny vamps would be ok

Are the vamps a light tire? I have heard a lot of good and bad things about them.

Not particularly, mud tires aren't light. If you want a light trail/mud tire look at Zilla's, mud bugs, mud lites, mst's all reasonable weights.

Ya I have mudlights on my 03 foreman, just looking for something different. I think I'm gonna look into vamps or zillas.

Vamps would be more mud,zillas more trail. I have an 18% GR on my 300 and running 28's (probably a bit too much tire) but it still runs about 30mph or better top speed. Idk how fast your looking to go.

I think I'll stick to the 26s seems to be a nice versatile tire size for a stock 300. My Foreman will rip the mud lights in 2nd gear with ease and it has no gear reduction with 28s but it's also a450, a lot more motor than the 300.

Yes more motor 8hp more actually and slightly lower gearing as well.

For me , I think 26x12 in the rear and 26x10 in the front is the perfect size for the 300 4x4 ---------- I ran a set of 27 ITP Black Waters for one weekend and they were too much for it --------------

My bro-in-law and his wife both have 300's (and he found mine and helped a ton with rebuilding the motor). He is running 32's on his with 54% GR and very mild motor work. He is really into the mudding/swamping and does some extreme stuff.

His wife's 300 is bone stock with a basic engine rebuild (.020" over I believe) and a small lift kit, and her bike has 27" Mud Lites and it doesn't struggle at all.

I'm running 25" Mud Lites on The Green Monster (my 300) and I feel like that is the best size for MY bike and MY riding, as it gives it decent ground clearance but still maintains a low center of gravity and handles the slants and slopes of our trails like a boss.

I've got 25's on mine (8's in the front and 10's in the rear), and I am very happy with the compromise. I would guess that I might have lost 5% with the taller tires, but it has more than enough for my riding style. For my needs, a gear reduction wouldn't be necessary.

Hearing all this talk of running 25" & 26" tyres is making me think that my motor is well due a top end rebuild (I'm due to do that anyway) sooner rather than later. I can't spin 2nd at all wether it's in really water swampy bogs or the thick clay mud holes. Compared to some of the tyres you guys run I'd call mine a semi aggressive mud tyre.
I'm also thinking I may have gone to wide, currently running 10" in width front and rear, maybe 8's or 9's would have been more beneficial.

My bike can still pop a wheelie so I'm assuming that my motor is fine for now

Mine lifts the front wheels about an inch, it won't wheelie on power alone, I have to pull up and drop down in the seat.
